The Hague Highest Courts Network

Welcome message from the Director of HiiL to visitors and members of the Hague Highest Courts Network website

Distinguished members and other interested persons,

Thank you for visiting the website of the Hague Highest Courts Network. Through this website, the very existence of the network becomes much more tangible, the sense of the network as such is enhanced and the concept underlying it is rendered clearer. As we again witnessed during Hill's second Law of the Future Conference  (23-24 October 2008,
The Hague, The Netherlands), communication between actors is of the utmost importance.

We sincerely hope that this website contributes to debates in the sphere of the changing role of highest courts in an internationalising world, for instance (but certainly not limited to this!) about how to facilitate the actual global dialogue between judges of various highest courts. We all learned that a lack of communication between actors, may just lead to reduced advances in the pursuit of lofty goals.

These options for debate and discussion are found in the Forum and File Repository (which will both be available soon). The Discussion Forum is there for you to facilitate interactive discussions, information-sharing and exchange of ideas in a protected environment. We kindly urge you to debate any questions or problems related to the theme in the forum.

The strength of the Hague Highest Courts Network lies not in its Convener but in its membership. This simple yet crucial observation has always guided HiiL's conduct as the Convener, including in the setting up of this website. This also means that while HiiL remains committed to improve and update this
website, the key to making it a real success is not with us, but with each and every one of you. We laid the foundations, but cannot construct this common building without your active participation in the process.

I realise, of course, that engaging in this website will consume time, and that time is a scarce resource for us all. But I hope and believe that actively engaging with this website will prove itself a useful investment.

With best regards,
